Research on the needs and concerns of the immigrant population of Jersey City – Project Handshake.
The “Study on Immigrant Inclusion and Integration for Jersey City,”
known as Project Handshake is a collaboration between Starting Points, Inc., New Jersey City University and Citi Community Development. It is a manifestation of how non-profit and private organizations together with academia work together in support of the immigrant communities in Jersey City.
After conducting six focus groups of immigrants over the six wards of Jersey City, the final report of Project Handshake was introduced to the public on April 28th .
Project Handshake II will build on the research in the first report by researching the overseas remittances of non-bank entities in the city and by conducting financial literacy classes throughout the year for immigrants.
