Title: Foundations in Child Development
(Note: This program is provided through the State’s Welfare-To-Work Initiative.)

Prerequisites: High School Diploma or GED

Educational Objectives:  To provide participants with: A theoretical framework as well as hands-on experiences in early childhood educational settings enabling them to assimilate into their own dispositions and response patterns the concepts and realities of best practice, and:

Program Scope:This program consists of one course. This entry-level occupational program prepares the participants with a coherent knowledge-base in order to hold an entry-level position working effectively and positively with children and other co-workers in early care educational settings.

Program Length: 280 hours over 8 weeks, - including class hours and externships weekly

Program Cost: $2,900.

Graduation Requirements: 80% attendance and completion of benchmarks assessments.

Certificate Awarded: Foundations in Child Development

Occupational Focus: Child Care Worker, Day Care Assistant.

Child Care Workers and Day Care Assistants nurture, teach, and care for children who have not yet entered kindergarten. Graduates may find work in primary educational services; nursing and residential care facilities; amusement and recreation industries; civic and social organizations; and individual and family services. Some child care providers work at for-profit centers, which may be affiliated with a local or national company and others at private-industry establishments that operate onsite child care centers for the children of their employees.
